Thought of the Week 💭

The concept of a side hustle has been discussed in the past so it’s nothing new to you but I wanted to share with you a post that I found very interesting! This post is written by David Coomer. I don’t know the guy but I love what he had to say.

“SIDE HUSTLE”

Virgil Abloh had many. All work requires hustle, and the lanes he swerved through in art, architecture, dj, product, fashion and automotive weren’t just on the side, but from every direction — the hustle came natural through the need to create.

Many folks would be painted into a box after art directing something as acclaimed as the Watch The Throne album cover.

Instead, he created Pyrex Vision, screen printing deadstock Ralph Lauren flannels and added +$500 to the price tag.

Before Off-White, Louis Vuitton and Mercedes brand collaborations, he was like many of you.

Designer.

Screen Printer.

If you’re daydreaming of starting something on the “side”, go for it. If you’ve always wanted to launch a brand with printed tees and hoodies, do it.

Pick up the torch he lit and create.

Rest In Power, Virgil.

WOW

With the passing of Virgil Abloh recently, it’s insane to look back and see how much he really accomplished in such little time. Like many of you reading this, he too went to architecture school. He took the concept of “space” and applied it to the clothing we wear, music we listen to, and furniture we sit on. He was definitely one of my idols in ARCHITECTURE because architecture isn’t just about buildings.. it’s about a whole lot more and I can’t wait to explore that with you.

“Young architects can change the world by not building buildings” - Virgil Abloh

A big update, I’ve reached my Ko-Fi goal! Although the goal was less than $20, every single one of you who has donated thus far has helped to keep me writing. What’s better motivation than feeling in debt to those who donate to you?! A huge thank you to everyone :)
