So you've probably already read my little bio to learn just a bit about who I am but if you're new here you might not know what I look like! Well, this is me (the guy with an arrow being pointed at him) a few years ago when I was still studying for my Master in Architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design.
DISCLAIMER: This is a bit of a long one..
"Jack of all trades, master of none"
I would say that phrase REALLY describes me.. I dove deep into art and crafting as a kid and then in middle school, I fell in love with street art. Oddly enough, the technicality of graffiti lettering stuck with me until college when I decided to pursue architecture as my career. Before that, in High School, I started screenprinting and by the time of my senior year, I started a small clothing brand. That clothing brand helped get me through college, even if it was for some extra beer money. I learned to run a business when I started printing for other people and I was a real entrepreneur. All this while in architecture school was extremely fun but also kind of difficult, I got to the point where I considered dropping architecture and running the screenprinting gig full time.
Architecture sucks..?
I was designing and printing these shirts so fast and satisfying my creative side where architecture school took a lot longer to have that same feeling. Mid-way through my second year of arch school I switched over to the first-ever class of the Interior Architecture program. My immediate thought was designing really cool stores and displays and that was really intriguing. IA was awesome and really got me thinking about space theoretically to the point that I wanted more and the only way for that was to go to graduate school.
What's New England?
Ah! New England. Providence was like NOTHING I've ever experienced. I was born and raised in Houston, Tx, a giant metropolitan area and Providence was the size of the neighborhood I grew up in. With all that said, I fell in love with the city and it's charm. RISD gave me the opportunity to explore this theoretical itch of architecture and exposed me to like-minded individuals. Because I was surrounded by so many unique people, I knew I had to find a way and document it all. At this time was when I started vlogging and then the Architecture School Chronicles.
-My first architecture school video. Don’t judge me, it gets better!
One thing led to another
and my Architecture School Chronicles videos started to gain traction and I realized it was reaching way more people than my small circle of friends. People really related to the struggles and the lack of coffee that comes with arch school! In 2018 I was invited for the first time as a guest on the Young Architect Podcast and then the following year I was invited to be a panelist for the first-ever Young Architect Conference. After Providence, I moved to San Antonio, Tx and I've been here working as an architectural designer since. Now that I've been out of school for a few years, documenting my life has been difficult so I've decided to pivot and take the lessons I learned about teaching and becoming a professor and apply them here to you all. I hope to be able to educate other young designers and give them the confidence to become the best designer/architect they can be!
I hope you enjoyed the intro into who I am and what I do.
