Who does the sky belong to?

Yo, What's up! Joseph here
I'm not going to lie, I'm pretty drained this week and couldn't think of some great things to say about the field of architecture.. This week at work we've been chasing down deadline after deadline just trying to get this specific project sent out to the city and approved by the owner, lenders, residents, and everyone else within the city it seems.

I did come across this tweet that sparked some interest! Particularly due to the fact that I had to go through an entire shade study process of measuring and verifying the heights of proposed skyscrapers in Boston. I can understand why people question the idea of ownership in âviews.â
When youâre watching a sci-fi futuristic show, skyscrapers are a status of wealth and only the elite live up top with majestic views. Why is it that people are entitled to these views? Maybe they were sold on the idea that the top floor had the best views? Personally I think itâs a bit ridiculous to think the city gets planned based on who buys the most expensive townhome. Maybe thatâs just my thought.
Iâve never been to San Francisco but I hear that the city is built solely on no views ever being obstructed and thatâs the cause of the obscene housing prices. If youâve been there, let me know. Is there a city near you where this is a problem?
Back to my Boston story.. I spent a Summer internship basically running around the city of Boston trying to map out the shadows of what would be the tallest building in downtown Boston. Shadows at different times of day are cast all over the city but most importantly cast onto the Boston Common, the cityâs largest public park. Thatâs a big no no.. To me, shadows and views are just a side effect of a growing city. Are you an advocate for âpersonal spaceâ and keeping the views when it comes to buildings? Let me know!

Worldâs first space hotel expected to open in 2027
In other news! I just came across this article and Iâm pretty excited to see what the future brings! Although I am kind of upset with the fact that we can be living in outer space sooner than we can have a flying car..
